A Walk in the Woods

During a recent break in the winter weather we went on a walk in the woods. We had a goal in mind . . . besides just getting out of the house and into the fresh air. We went to see the skunk cabbage blooming.

Skunk cabbage you ask? Yes. It's a plant that grows in the wetland seeps in our nearby State Park. It grows a few other places around us, but is easiest to find in the State Park. We had often seen it growing in the wetlands during the summer, but we wanted to see it blooming. Skunk Cabbage is not exactly a flower that garners awards for beauty, but it is unusual, unique.

A walk in the woods can have a goal in mind, or it can be a time for reflection and re-creation. Bundle up, take a walk, and get yourself out into the woods soon. Every season looks different, go find something unique in your woods!
